Chapter four
Layne
Christmas Day
The smell of breakfast gently awakens me in the loft. The intensity of last night lingers, and I still feel its aftermath. Wes, after untying me, went the extra mile to make sure I felt safe and cared for, bathing me and tucking me into bed. The sex was so intense that it left us in a state of euphoria and exhaustion. To relive it all, I wouldn't hesitate to let him do it again.
Down the ladder, I spot the packages under the tree, a roaring fire and him. Wes is in plaid pajama pants, with no shirt and a Santa hat. Classic Christmas music plays through the speakers. As I make my way over to him, I spot the table set with breakfast. I canât contain the joy in my heart.
He does it all for me, knowing I missed out on Christmas as a child.
âMerry Christmas, Layne.â He presses his lips to my forehead. âBreakfast or presents first?â
âIâll be a good girl and eat breakfast so that itâs still hot.â
Wes serves me breakfast, French toast, bacon, eggs and strawberries. I raise my eyebrows at him as I watch him eat the strawberry he spears with his fork. âEat, Layne.â I giggle as I take a bite, and moan at the syrupy goodness.
âFairytale of New York,â plays and I sing along as we eat. Behind Wes, I can see out the window and itâs snowing pretty hard. We finish up eating and I clear the table, scraping the plates of the food remnants and sticking them in the sink of water. Once finished, we head to the tree. I grabbed the gift I had wrapped for him.
Wes sits on the floor in front of the wood stove, his cup of black coffee in hand. I hand him the gift. âYou put all of this together, you get to go first.â
He takes the gift, his jade eyes soften, and a smile spreads across his face. He rips the wrapping paper and lifts the lid on the box. Wes pulls out the mask from the bed of tissue paper. I am giddy with excitement!
âI found it in a shop in Berkeley. Itâs an authentic âScab maskâ from 2004.â Heâs been wearing a balaclava because his last kill broke a buckle on his previous mask and we havenât found a permanent fix for it. So it was luck I found this one while out with Atlas and Sky.
My support of his âhobbyâ is no surprise as I helped with the last pedophile he killed. Despite everything, his look says it all. He crawls over to me. My heart stops for a moment, watching him crawl. He scoots next to me and kisses me, tender and sweet. âThank you. This means so much to me, baby. â
He reaches under the tree for two gifts. One item is an envelope, the other a rectangular box. âTechnically, this gift,â he holds up the envelope, âis for both of us. So open this one first.â He places the box in my hands.
